Volkswagen Group of America names Anna Schneider to lead government relations

- David Geanacopoulos, head of public affairs and public policy, to retire effective April 3
HERNDON, Va. (March, 31, 2020) –Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. (VWGoA) named Anna Schneider to lead public affairs and public policy. She starts her new role April 3. She succeeds David Geanacopoulos, VWGoA's head of public affairs and public policy, who is retiring after 17 years with the company.
In her new role, Anna will head VWGoA’s legislative and public affairs efforts at the federal and state level based out of Washington, DC. Previously, she led the group's legislative and public affairs priorities and advocacy efforts.
Anna, 59, joined the company in 2008 from Toyota Motor North America, where she served as vice president of industry and government relations. Before joining Toyota, she was executive director for government relations of the U.S. operations for Mitsubishi Motors North America.
“Anna is not only a respected figure in the industry and among political leaders in Washington and across the country,” said Scott Keogh, President and CEO, VWGoA. “With her leadership and expertise, she will be an excellent representative of our company with national, state and local government officials, building on the strong foundation David set.”
David, 65, retires effective April 3. He joined the group in 2003 and also served as general counsel of the group. He played a key role in many big milestones for the company, including the move of the headquarters to Virginia and location of the VW factory in Tennessee as well as establishing the government affairs function 17 years ago.
“David has been the measured, trusted and diplomatic hand behind most of the major decisions at the company during his tenure, including the move of our headquarters to Virginia, helping to open our factory in Chattanooga and establishing our government relations presence in Washington,'' Scott said. "We thank David for his commitment and exceptional leadership and wish him the very best."
Anna graduated from Bucknell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in international relations and has a master’s degree in international affairs from Columbia University.
